Alleged Police killing: Youths Protest in Asaba With Corpse

Dozens of youths in Asaba on Wednesday staged a protest at the Police Headquarters and the Government House following the killing of a young man allegedly by a Police Officer at a check point along Ilah -Ugbolu -Asaba Road.

Soon after he was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre, the angry youth paraded some of the streets of Asaba displaying the corpse of the victim – Onyeka Ibeh Emmanuel.

At the police headquarters, they asked the authorities to provide the officer who killed Onyeka Emmanuel – a trader at the popular Ogbogonogo Market in Asaba.

Addressing the youth, the commissioner of Police. Ari Muhammad Ali tried to assuage them while he assured them of a prompt investigation. He invited the relatives of the deceased and some youths into his office.

The police officer who allegedly fired the shot that killed Emmanuel also spoke to journalists.

At the Government House Asaba where the corpse was also taken, security was beefed up to stop the youth from gaining entrance. However, the Chief of staff to the governor Ovie Agas addressed the protesters promising that the officer that carried out the killing will be prosecuted.
