The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to urgently ensure that adequate measures are put in place to combat and prevent the fungi disease affecting Ginger farming in Kaduna and other locations where it is grown in the country.
This was the resolution of a motion under matters of urgent National Importance sponsored by Hon Dan Amos from Kaduna state.
Stating the importance of the Crop in his lead debate, the lawmakers pointed out the need for the Ministry to see to the distribution of improved ginger seedlings to affected farmers.
Honorable Amos also added that many families in these locations depend largely on Ginger production as the main source of livelihood, which might in turn affect the education of their children.
