The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission Professor Mahmood Yakubu has called for the early passage of the electoral legal framework by the ninth assembly.
Professor Mahmood made the call today in Abuja, when the Commission presented Senators-elect with their Certificates of Return.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Imo state Rochas Okorocha has said the withholding of his Certificate of Return by INEC has the potential to stir tension in Imo state.
In his reaction to the development, Rochas Okorocha argued that the move to withhold his certificate of return based on allegation without hearing his own side of the story was unjust.
Governor Okorocha, however, said that the action by INEC was an insult to his person and a mockery of Nigeria’s fledgling democracy.
Also, three hundred and sixty lawmakers that will shape the activities of the ninth assembly in the House of Representatives on Thursday received their Certificates of Return for the next session.
Handing over their certificates, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu urged members-elect to work towards delivering dividends of democracy as promised while going to the poll.
