The Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Tambuwal has said any electoral victory not obtained through the legitimate votes of the people amounts to a coup d’etat.
He said this as voters in Edo prepare to vote for a governor this weekend.
The Sokoto state helmsman who is also the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Governors Forum said this in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday.
He called for a rethink of the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the activities of various security agencies. This he says will instill in them the culture of inflexible support for democracy and its practice.
Governor Tambuwal also called on the National Assembly to conclude amendments to the Electoral Act in order to make rigging and manipulations impossible in future elections.
