The frontline health workers of Nigeria have emerged winner of the 2020 edition of the prestigious Silverbird Man of the Year awards 2020.
They are being recognized for their selfless work in keeping humanity alive in the face of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
In other categories, the Silverbird extraordinary personality of the year award, goes to the governor of Rivers State, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, while the Silverbird special personality award is bestowed on the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
For his bravery and the fight against terrorism, the Silverbird special achievement award goes to Governor of Borno state, Professor Babagana Zulum.
The Nigerian Armed Forces won the Silverbird heroes award.
While the post-humous awards were presented to Brigadier Benjamin Adekunle, also known as, the black scorpion; colonel Joseph Achuzia, also known as, ‘air raid’, and Major-General Mohammed Shuwa.
Another notable feature of the 2020 award, is the special recognition of the role played by the Endsars protest which sought an end to police brutality and extra judicial killings by the police force in Nigeria.
The award was instituted in 2005 to celebrate Nigerians who have impacted positively on the lives of the people in their chosen careers and public offices.
