Georgia senate poll: democrats take control with Warnock and Ossoff wins

by Kunle Awosiyan

Senate Democratic candidate for Georgia, Raphael Warnock has defeated the Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffler, while Democrat Jon Ossoff also stole the show from his Republican challenger David Perdue in a keenly contested run-off election.

With the wins in the senate, the Democratic Party now has control of the Senate, the House of Representatives and the presidency for the first time since 2009, giving the Joe Biden administration a smooth chance of achieving its agenda on some critical issues such as healthcare, climate change and immigration.

The final senate tally will present the Democrats and the Republicans with 50 seats each in the Senate, while the incoming Democratic vice-president, Kamala Harris, who constitutionally presides over the Senate will have the tie-breaking vote.
