Crimes against humanity: former C.A.R rebel leader to Face ICC

A former Central African Republic militia Commander, Mahamat Abdel Kani is set to appear before the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday to faces charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Abdel Kani was arrested by the Central African Republic authority, following a warrant of arrest issued by the ICC on 7 January 2019.

Procedure for his trial includes, appearing before the presiding judge Rosario Aitala who will then verify the former rebel leader’s identity and the language he prefers to use in following proceedings.

He is accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity that he allegedly committed in 2013 in the capital, Bangui, following the overthrow of President François Bozizé.
