Int’l Criminal Court: Ugandan rebel leader awaits war crimes judgment

Ugandan war lord and Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) commander Dominic Ongwen will on Thursday receive verdict on 70 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the war crimes tribunal.

The rebel group that he and others commanded terrorised the country’s entire northern region for nearly two decades, murdering and abducting people, forcing children to commit atrocities against their own families.

Dominic Ongwen who was himself abducted as a schoolboy, was later trained and turned into one of the rebel outfit’s fiercest fighters,
