March 1, 2021, Nigeria’s former finance minister, Ngozi Pkonjo-Iweala will assume office as the next Director-General of the World Trade Organisation. This follow her confirmation by the WTO on Monday. She emerged following the withdrawal of the South Korean candidate from the race. Okonjo-Iweala is the first woman and the first African to lead the international trade body. The former u=United States of American President, Donald Trump had earlier kicked against her candidacy when he threw his support behind the South Korean candidate.
