Ogun Forest Reserve: government vows to arrests illegal occupants

by Kunle Awosiyan

Ogun State Government has impounded two timber lorries loaded with logs, three falling machines, one tractor and a motorcycle used by illegal occupants and operators in its Area J4 reserve.

According to Commissioner for Forestry, Tunji Akinosi while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital, the culprits are still at large with a vow that, government security agents will go after them.

He said the state’s revenue being illegally taken out as flitches from the reserves to neighbouring states would not be allowed to thrive.

The Commissioner said government has written letters to community leaders in the area, requesting their supports to flush out illegal occupants or help get them arrested.

He assured that, the depleted condition of other forest reserves particularly Imeko and Aworo is addressed to get the reserves back and running.
