Keyamo urges acting APC caretaker committee chairman, Buni to step down

by Kunle Awosiyan

A key member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has called for the resignation of the governor of Yobe state Mai Mala Buni as the National Chairman of the Caretaker and Convention planning committee of the party, stating constitutional reasons.

Minister of state for Labour Festus Keyamo’s advice is contained in his reaction to the judgement of the Supreme Court which on technical ground narrowly dismissed the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP challenging the competence of Governor Mala Buni to run the Affairs of the APC.

Mister Keyamo clarified that Section 183 of the 1999 Constitution bars a sitting Governor from holding any other executive office in any capacity whatsoever, and I quote, “had (Governor) Buni been joined in the suit, the story may have been different today as we would have lost Ondo State to the PDP.”

He warned that the Supreme Court has justified all those that would be aggrieved by the forthcoming APC Congresses to proceed to court to Challenge the competence of Governor Buni and the Caretaker Committee to organise the Congresses and National Convention.
