Alao-Akala, Former Governor of Oyo, Is Dead

A former governor of Oyo State, Christopher Alao-Akala, is dead. He died at the age of 71.

He was a former deputy Governor to Rasheed Ladoja in 2003 and later sworn-in as the governor, following the impeachment and removal of Ladoja.

Alao-Akala, was Governor from May 29, 2007 – May 29, 2011, having succeeded Senator Rasheed Ladoja. The late former Governor was a Deputy Governor of Oyo State from, May 29, 2003 – May 29, 2007.

Adebayo Alao-Akala was one of the strategic political sons to the late “strongman” of Oyo politics and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the late Lamidi Adedibu

As Deputy Governor to Senator Ladoja, Alao-Akala became the beneficiary of the now infamous impeachment of the Governor Ladoja, he was then sworn-in as governor, until the Court of Appeal sacked him after eleven months in power, he then reverted to his position as Deputy.

Ahead of the 2007 Governorship election in Oyo State, Alao-Akala was sponsored by the late Adedibu to take the party ticket away from former Governor Ladoja. He contested on the PDP ticket, won the election and was a one term governor.

Ahead of the 2019 election, he switched political camp to the Action Democratic Party, ADP and contested for a second term in office, he lost to the incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde.

Before his death on Wednesday, Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala had pitched political tent with the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State.
