A cross-section of Nigerians across social media platforms has applauded President Mohammadu Buhari for directing Ministers in his cabinet who are aspiring to run for political offices to resign on or before the sixteenth of May 2022.

President Buhari’s directive is in line with the provision of Section 84 sub-section (12) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which states that “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the Convention or Congress of any political party for the nomination of candidates for any election”.

So far Emeka Nwajiuba the Minister of State, Ministry of Education, who is seeking to run for president on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), resigned from office on Wednesday in Abuja.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed the minister’s resignation in an interview earlier today.
