The Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigerian Customs Service has generated the sum of thirteen Billion, three hundred and ninety-seven million, four hundred and one thousand, three hundred and sixty Naira (N13, 397, 441, 364.71) in the first quarter of 2019.
This amount represented 101.4% increase to the six billion, thirty-two million, nine hundred and sixty-four thousand, six hundred and fifty Naira and ninety-four Kobo (N6,032,964,650.94) generated in 2018 with the same period.
The Area controller Oyo/Osun Command Abdulahi Zulkifli stated this at a press briefing in Ibadan.
He stated that the command intercepted three thousand, two and hundred and seventy smuggled imported rice.
According to him, the Command also confiscated smuggled vegetable oil, second hand clothing, bags of sugar and exotic cars with duty paid value of one hundred and five million, seven hundred and twenty-eight thousand, nine hundred and seventy-four (N105,728,974).
He hinted that most of the contraband were concealed in low economic value vehicles. He promised that the officers and men of the command will not relent in their efforts in fighting smuggling with a view to protecting indegenous companies and provide jobs for the unemployed.
