Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila on Thursday, presided over first plenary after Inauguration with the House forming a quorum.
He noted that the House will adjourn plenary for two weeks to give room for members to sort out accommodation and office spaces.
The House resumed her first business of the day with the swearing in of a new member, Musa Sarkin Adar, representjng Goroyon Gada Federal Constituency of Sokoto State.
A motion of urgent public importance was moved by Representative Benjamin Kalu from Abia State.
He is seeking an urgent intervention from the government to address the issue of flood and erosion that has swept some community in Abia, Imo, Delta and Rivers state.
This will be his first motion upon resumption and appears to have the interest of his community at heart.
Representative Ajibola Miraina from Oyo State moved the second motion on the increasing cases of kidnapping and banditry in Oyo State.
The motion was put to a voice vote with the ayes having their way and was referred to the relevant committee for further legislative business.
When It was time to have an exclusive chat with the house, Speaker Gbajabiamila called for an executive session.
Having named his Chief of Staff, the Speaker will now be faced with the task of constituting committees and principal officers to set the ball rolling for the 9th House of Representatives
