Restructuring: Sokoto Governor says National Assembly to play pivotal role

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has said efforts at restructuring Nigeria can only succeed if they go through the National Assembly.

Mr. Tambuwal said this on Monday in Abuja during the plenary session of the 26th Nigerian Economic Summit.

The governor said Nigeria must avoid a repeat of the mistake of twenty fifteen when a robust attempt by the House of Representatives to amend the constitution was rejected at the last minute.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Public Affairs Abubakar Shekara said Mr Tambuwal observed that the constitutional conferences championed by Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan failed largely because their resolutions were not translated into legislation.
