The twenty eighteen World Aids Day with the theme “know your status” is aimed at improving education towards realizing the right to health for all Nigerians as a means to ending aids by twenty thirty.
Marked annually, every first of december, the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research NIMR organized a press conference to commemorate the day.
The press conference was aimed at encouraging Nigerians especially the youths know their status so as to get Nigerians into the bracket of the 90 – 90 – 90 vision of the year 2030.
A Deputy Director Research, NIMR Dr. Oliver Ezechi, said only about 32% of Nigerians know their HIV status which is a far cry from the vision 2030.
Also speaking at the conference, Dr. Juliet Iwelunmor said that young people represent a significant untapped resource of innovation, creativity and talent that can be harnessed properly to promote HIV self-testing in Nigeria.
The WHO advocacy and communication for World AIDS Day 2018 as well as its partners world wide, aim to persuade people to know their HIV infection status through testing, and to access HIV prevention, treatment and care services and also to encourage policy-makers to promote a health for all agenda for HIV and related health services.
