Tinubu’s Special Investigator Faults CBN Audited Reports

A special investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu has identified loopholes in the audited annual financial reports of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The investigator was appointed to investigate the financial account discrepancies and irregularities at the apex bank.

Amid an ongoing investigation by the financial services industry regulator, the CBN disclosed its financial records for the years 2016 to 2022 in August.

Recall that on July 28, President Tinubu designated Jim Obazee, a former CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, as a special investigator to investigate the actions of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the apex bank.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC), the Foreign Relations Commission (FRC), and other government business entities are among the targets of the Special Investigator’s investigation, in addition to the CBN.
