OAU students kick as management hikes tuition fees by over 300 percent
The students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, in Osun State, have voiced their discontent following the announcement of the rise in tuition fees. They have asked the administration to reduce the charge to the absolute minimum or reverse it completely.
Students and other university stakeholders have expressed outrage over the over 300% rise in tuition rates that was implemented across all faculties.
Following the release of the newly approved additional student fees, the leadership of the Students’ Union on Tuesday summoned an urgent stakeholders meeting.
The meeting, which was held on Wednesday at the Students’ Union Building Conference Room, had over 80 student leaders from the Central Executives Council, leadership of the SRC, Hall Chairpersons, Faculty Presidents and speakers, departmental presidents and speakers, presidents of Indigenous Association, Ameer of Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, and the ACJ representative of the Association of Campus Journalists.
