Tribunal Upholds Plateau Gov’s Election, dismisses APC’s petition

The governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Jos has upheld the election of Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mutfwang, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the winner of the election.

However, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, a rival from the All Progressive Congress (APC), went to court and requested to be proclaimed the victor on the grounds that the PDP lacked organisation and there was overvoting.

Additionally, the petitioner requested that the court count the ballots from the 14 polling places that INEC disqualified.

The tribunal, presided over by Justice R. Irele-Ifineh, issued its ruling, concluding that the petitioner’s concerns about party structure were pre-election problems and that the petitioners lacked the authority to contest them.
