All African Games: Team Nigeria Overtakes Algeria, South Africa

Six late Gold medals on Monday from Adijat Olarinoye and Rofiat Lawal in the women’s weightlifting event moved Nigeria above Algeria and South Africa on the Medal Table.

The duo of Adijat and Rofiat delivered three gold each in the 55kg and 59kg events, respectively, to take Nigeria’s gold medal haul to 16 on Monday, 11th March 2023. Earlier in the day, another weightlifter, Joseph Edidiong Umoafia, had won 3 Gold in the Men’s 67kg event.

Nigeria is currently ranked second on the medals table with a total of 41 medals (16 Gold, 10 Silver, and 15 Bronze) from five disciplines at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra Ghana.

Egypt leads the medals standing with a total of 84 medals (47 Gold, 19 Silver, and 18 Bronze). Algeria dropped to the third spot with a total of 55 medals (15 Gold, 20 Silver, and 20 Bronze).
