Finidi Handed Boost as Tanimu, Omeruo Train Fully Ahead of Eagles’ Battle

Nigeria’s interim boss Finidi George has been handed a boost ahead of the international friendly against Mali’s Eagles, with the duo of Kenneth Omeruo and Benjamin Tanimu involved in full training on Sunday, March 24.

Omeruo didn’t feature in the 2-1 victory over Ghana last Friday as interim coach Finidi George said the former Chelsea defender had picked up a knock before the game.

Tanimu on the hand, played against the Black Stars which marked his first ever appearance for the Super Eagles but was replaced by Ademola Lookman in the 79th minute due to a suspected injury.

The return to full fitness of the former Bendel Insurance defender and his Kasımpaşa counterpart is a huge boost for Nigeria as they would have been without three centre backs heading into the clash against Mali.

This is because they would be without Fulham central defender Calvin Bassey who has been forced to return to Craven Cottage for further assessment on his fitness.

It remains to be seen whether Tanimu and Omeruo will start against the Eagles who will also be heading to the clash high on confidence having won their last game against Mauritania.

Both sides haven’t met since 2016 when Nigeria prevailed by a solitary goal in an international friendly.
