by Silverbird News24

Fresh from their victory in the South-South derby against rivals Delta Queens, Rivers Angels are gearing up for their upcoming match against Sunshine Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership. Scheduled for Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024, inside the Akure Township Stadium, this match promises to be another exciting encounter for the Jewel of Rivers.

Sunshine Queens, coming off a 4-2 defeat to Edo Queens in Benin last week, will be looking to bounce back on their home turf. However, Rivers Angels remain undeterred and fully focused on securing another three points to bolster their position in the league standings.

Coach Whyte Ogbonda expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming challenge, emphasizing the importance of securing maximum points to enhance their chances of qualifying for the Super Six. While acknowledging the potential difficulty of the match, Ogbonda believes his girls are prepared to fight for victory.

“I wouldn’t say I’m under pressure but we need to get that three points. The team is not under any pressure but our target is to get the three points so that other matches will be very easy for us,” Ogbonda stated.

“Knowing the way Akure fans behave, we know it won’t be an easy match but we are well prepared for them.”
Dispelling notions of pressure, Ogbonda emphasized the team’s focus on achieving a positive result, which will pave the way for smoother matches in the future.

Attacker Olamide Adugbe echoed the team’s determination and focus, expressing her confidence in scoring goals in the upcoming match. With a target of 15 goals for the season, Adugbe remains optimistic about achieving her goal, starting with the match against Sunshine Queens.
“We are very ready for the match on Wednesday because we have been training very hard , so we are super ready,” Adugbe said.
“I expect to score tomorrow because I did that in our home game and will also do same here in Akure.

“My target was 15 goals from the onset but I still think I can keep up because after the regular season, we still have the Super Six.”

With kickoff set for 4 pm, Rivers Angels are poised to bring their A-game as they seek to secure another vital victory in their NWFL Premiership campaign.
