Defending champions Rivers Hoopers picked up their second win at the ongoing Louis Edem Invitational Basketball Championship as they toppled Ebun Comets 65-46 on Tuesday night.

Hoopers started brightly and established their superiority with a 7-0 run in the opening minutes of the encounter, before Comets found their way into the game with some good combination play. However, the KingsMen were able to hold on to their advantage and finished the opening quarter with a 19-13 lead.

Hoopers improved their performance in the second, dominating Comets in the paint while also restricting them at the backboard. The second quarter ended 23-12, which meant the defending champions entered the halftime break with a huge 17-point lead with the scores at 42-25.

The third quarter took a new twist as Comets who had suffered consecutive losses to Hoops & Read and Kwara Falcons respectively, took the fight to Hoopers in an attempt to rescue the game.

Despite Hoopers opening up a 20-point lead at the start of the third quarter, Comets rallied to cut the deficit to 12 points, as they restricted Rivers Hoopers to just 7 points against their 12 points.

However, Hoopers regained control of the game in the final quarter of the encounter, scoring 16 and limiting Comets to 9, as they sealed a 19-point victory.

They will face Hoops & Read in their next game on Wednesday.
