NLC president Joe Ajaero brutalised, arrested in imo

The president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, said on Wednesday that he was brutally attacked and arrested by some Nigeria Police agents who were purportedly associated with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.

According to reports, the national leadership of the movement organised a protest where the leader of Labour was detained over allegations that workers in the state were mistreated.

Ajaero had declared during a news conference in Abuja on Sunday that the movement would close Owerri, the state capital, since the state government was allegedly violating workers’ rights.

Confirming the development to journalists via telephone, the Head of Information and Publicity at the NLC, Benson Upah, said, “The NLC President was abducted by men suspected to Policemen armed to their teeth at the Imo state NLC secretariat on Wednesday as we are about to commence our lawful protest against the violation of trade Union rights of the workers.”
