Niger Coup Update: ECOWAS Military Chiefs Meet in Ghana

Military chiefs from ECOWAS countries are meeting in Ghana Thursday and Friday to discuss modalities fir the deployment of a standby force for possible military intervention in Niger Republic.

Majority of the 15-member states are in support of a military action to reinstate the ousted president, Mohamed Bazoum.

Three ECOWAS members, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea currently under military rules are in support of the Niger coup leaders.

The Junta in Niger Republic have recently indicated interest to engage in dialogue with ECOWAS.
